Personal Safety

Lawsuit and Asset Protection
Ward Off Unwarranted, Frivolous Lawsuits

No personal injury site would be complete without a section on personal safety. Besides being a website about personal injury recourse, this site is also about avoiding personal injury as well. Personal safety usually begins at home.

Those with children will know the value of child-proofing one's home as a means of personal safety. Personal safety at home also means reducing, repairing, containing or eliminating the things that can cause risk to everyone such as faulty electrical wiring, water heaters, furnaces, unguarded pools in the backyard or products that have been recalled.

Protecting one's home from invasion also promotes personal safety. Having a watchdog, home alarm system and neighborhood watch program can reduce the likelihood of a home invasion.

Personal safety outside the home is another consideration. While on foot, carrying a personal safety alarm, avoiding isolated areas and taking self-defense and safety awareness classes can help keep one safe. If you have children, go online and to see if there are any known sex offenders in your neighborhood that you may need to protect your children against. While driving, avoiding and reporting suspected drunk drivers, regular auto maintenance and replacing items that have been recalled also promote safety.

When choosing a doctor or surgeon, go the extra yard for referrals and check with the state boards for any past or present disciplinary action against the doctor. Check the hospital's rating as well. Do as much research as possible to promote safety when in the presence of a health care provider.

Learn CPR in case of emergency. Talk with neighbors concerning any personal health issues they or their families are experiencing. Industrial environmental issues may be at work in your neighborhood without anyone being aware of it. In the workplace, make sure all hazardous materials (HazMat) safety precautions are being taken. See HazMat for more information.

Most of all, just start developing a general awareness of personal safety issues that may be problematic for yourself or your family. Awareness if the first step in any personal safety plan.
